Kashim Shettima, born on 2nd September, 1966 in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State. Kashim Shettima attended Lamisula Primary School, Maiduguri in 1972 – 1978 and proceeded to Government Community Secondary School, Biu between 1978 – 1980, he was however, transferred to Government Science Secondary School Potiskum (now in Yobe State) where he completed his secondary education in 1983.
Without wasting much time, he was admitted into the University of Maiduguri to study Agric. Economics and graduated in 1989. He went for his National Youth Service in Calabar and served with the Nigerian Agric. Cooperative Bank from 1989 – 1990.
His performance at the University of Maiduguri gave him courage to further pursue his M. Sc without delay and he was admitted to the University of Ibadan where he bagged his Masters Degree (M. Sc) in Agric. Economics between 1990 to 1991.
Despite his short presence in the field of academia, Kashim Shettima made a tremendous impact on his students between 1991 – 1993 as a Lecturer II with the Department of Agricultural Economics of the University of Maiduguri.
His carrier as a banker could be traced back to 1989 – 1990 when he served as a young Youth Corper with the Nigerian Agric. Cooperative Bank in Calabar. The Federal Governments’ commitment to boost agriculture through encouraging farmers to collect loan from commercial banks made the Commercial Bank of Africa Limited offer appointment to an Agric. Economist from the core north as its Officer and Head Accounts Unit at its Ikeja Office, Lagos State in 1993 up to 1997.
Change in Government policies and the imperative for career enhancement encouraged young Kashim Shettima to secure appointment with the African International Bank Limited, Kaduna Branch as Deputy Manager and rose to the cadre of Manager between 1997 – 2001.
Hard work, dedication to duty, perseverance and loyalty are said to be ingredients for prosperity to every youth. Zenith Bank, a third generation Bank with focus decided to pick the best of the best in the banking industry and Kashim Shettima had no problem as he was appointed Deputy Manager/Branch Head of the Zenith Bank Plc Maiduguri Office in 2001.
Due to his commitment towards the job, his public relations with staff and customers, Kashim Shettima became outstanding amongst his colleagues and rose to the office of Manager/Branch Head, Senior Manager/Branch Head, Assistant General Manager (AGM)/Zonal Head (North-East), Deputy General Manager/Zonal Head (North-East) and General Manager in just five (5) years.
Upon noticing the exemplary qualities of Shettima, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Senator (Dr) Ali Modu Sheriff graciously invited Kashim Shettima to join him in bringing glory and success to the Borno State Government through is experience as a financial guru.
