Mr. Tayo Aderinokun graduated with First Class degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos in 1977 and an MBA with special concentration on International Business from the Graduate School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles. He started his professional career with the Central Bank of Nigeria in Calabar, where he did his National Youth Service between 1977 and 1978.
In 1981 with Chase Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited (later renamed Continental Merchant Bank). During his seven year stint there, he had professional training in Credit and Relationship Management at the Chase Manhattan Bank Institute for International Banking New York, United States between 1982 and 1983. He joined the defunct Prime Merchant Bank Limited in 1988 as an Assistant General Manager and rose to the position of Head of the financial services division of the Bank. In 1989, he set up a non-bank financial institution, First Marina Trust Limited which he ran for a year. In 1990 he co-founded Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, with his friend and colleague, Mr. Fola Adeola where he served as Deputy. He was a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and was a recipient of the national award - Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is survived by two wives and four children.
