T he Minister for Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu has intervened in the imbroglio between Union Bank of Nigeria (UBN) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The intervention resulted in the NLC calling off the picketing of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and directed its members nationwide to vacate the premises of the Bank for smooth operations.
The directive followed the agreement reached last week with the minister that made NLC suspend the industrial action against the Bank and sought to reconcile to ensure a peaceful settlement.
“Following fruitful deliberations, we are pleased to announce that all issues in dispute that led to the current action between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the management of Union Bank of Nigeria PLC have been addressed to the mutual satisfaction of all parties,” the statement said.
The bank, while thanking the customers and other stakeholders for their support and understanding during the period, has assured them of the bank’s preparedness to continue to offer excellent services in all its branches.
The management of the bank had described as contemptuous the picketing of its offices by the Nigeria Labour Congress despite a subsisting injunction on the action.
