Following remarkable growth in customer base recorded by Guaranty Trust Bank Plc since the 2009 intervention by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the bank has outlined plans geared towards reducing the long queues observed in its branches. Acting Managing Director, GT Bank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, dropped this hint when he paid an unscheduled visit to the bank’s branch at Herbert Macaulay, Yaba Lagos on Friday.
Agbaje, who arrived at the branch at exactly 1.30 pm with some staff from the bank’s Head Office, said he observed that 30 per cent of customers in the banking hall were filling forms and said steps, will be taken to automate more of the bank’s transactions.
He advised staff of the bank to always encourage customers to use the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and take steps to eliminate the queues in the branch.
“We must find out why people are always filling forms and take steps to eliminate the queues,” he said while discussing with some staff at the branch.
GTBank recently announced that it had made some investment in Information Technology infrastructure, which was also aimed at enhancing quality service delivery and alternative channels in the bank.
Agbaje had explained that the move was taken in line with the bank’s reputation, “as a listening bank.” He had revealed plans by the bank to deploy the Superdome — HP’s flagship, high-end Integrity server — which has powered some of the world’s most demanding, mission-critical environments and is also suited as the solution of choice for enterprise-class customers who require high availability, rich virtualization capabilities, and long-term investment protection.
“We have always sought new ways to serve our customers better. Operationally, these efforts centre on providing convenient and affordable services, without compromising quality. Many times, this has entailed the introduction of cutting-edge technology to ensure our customers can access banking service comparable with what is obtainable internationally,” Agbaje had explained.
