Lightbulb Is the constitution truly supreme>

In countries all over the world you see new Leaders being sworn-in under their various constitutions, swearing allegiance to it. But most often such Leaders are sworn holding or at least touching the holy Bible, the holy Quran, the Torah or such other holy books of the climes. So is the Constitution of a country truly supreme? Then why the necessity of holding a holy book?

Alright,Constitution is indeed supreme however ,it takes another thing for the people to upheld the constitution (Religion in this case),thus the need to swear people in with that.

They are decieving themselves not me. I think the ten{10} commandment condems swearing. Those characters perform it (swearing with a Bible) to make power look deadly and to command influence.

Constitutions are the supreme laws of countries. However, people flout them with impunity, especially in the developing countries. This must not surprise anybody. Don't they even disobey the Commandments of God? Let our leaders start swearing by the gods ( e.g. those of thunder, iron, smallpox) and watch how the constitution will be respected.

According to human knowledge and understanding in governance, the Constitution is TRULY SUPREME.

Are we not simply substituting the holy books with gods of thunder etc? If at all the constitution is truly supreme, should it not stand on its own without any allies?

It is getting interesting around here,I wish to make my own submision.
I think the statement is relative,It is supreme in interpretation indeed but not in upholding itself , After all ,Men make the constitution and It can be changed anytime, the difficulty remains the Man that makes the constitution supreme.

On a lighter note ,I agree with gembiz , that our leaders should start Swearing by Sango ,Cutlass,Stone , Amadioha or any other god ,Since Some of them have proven that they do not respect or follow any of the two most commonly used Holy Books.

Well, true that this people will fear and do right when sworn in by the deity of the land. But will it be RIGHT? Does it mean that this lesser gods are stronger and more dangerous than our God? This is what it will typify if done this way.

No it will be the immediacy of punishment that they will fear because these gods have physical representations eg thunder.

Sorry my dear, this issue of Constitution is more than being any RELIGIOUS THING or OF PERSONAL INTEREST. I still believe we all belong to one set of belief or the other.
I know that these set of beliefs believe in doing what is right. We should think on how things should done right not resisting one another on any grounds.
