Sokoto State High Court has revoked bail granting to former Attahiru Bafarawa following his inability to turn up in court yesterday at the resumed hearing of the case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to a press statement signed by spokesman of the commission, Femi Babafemi, the former governor who is standing trial of alleged embezzlement of about N15 billion has been declared wanted by the commission following the revocation of his bail by the judge.
When the case came up for trial yesterday, Bafarawa was nowhere to be found. His lawyer came up with the excuse that he travelled out of the country for medical treatment.
The EFCC counsel, Adeniyi Akintola, SAN, told the judge that it was obvious Bafarawa had jumped bail and pleaded with the judge to revoke his bail and order his arrest. The judge granted all the prosecution’s prayers.
Bafarawa was arraigned before a Sokoto state high court last year by the EFCC for embezzling about N15 billion public funds. He was subsequently granted bail after being remanded for some days in prison custody.
