Gunmen kill two in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
After a relative calm in cult related killings in Bayelsa State, tragedy struck, Sunday night, in Yenagoa, as two persons were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
The incident, which many fear could be a resurgence of cult killings in the state, occurred in the densely populated Kpansia suburb of the capital city.
Sounds of gunshots caused pandemonium in the usually serene neighbourhood, as residents scampered for safety while shop owners hurriedly shut their businesses for fear of being hit by stray bullets.
The deceased youths, who incidentally were friends, were identified as Isaac Ogbomo, an indigene of Amassoma, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and King Boro, from Kaiama, in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
Though the motive for the killings could not be ascertained, it was gathered that the gunmen may have come for the late Boro.
Sources told Vanguard that the late Ogbomo had, on the fateful Sunday, returned from Otuan in Southern Ijaw council, unaware that danger was lurking.
He was said to have gone out later in the night to visit his friend (Boro) at the latter’s residence at Kpansi, when unknown gunmen struck, killing both friends.
According to a source, the late Ogbomo may have been a victim of circumstance, being at the place at the wrong time.
“Isaac Ogbomo may have been killed by his assailants to conceal their identity,” the source said.
The remains of the deceased persons were said to have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue by the police.
Contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eguavoen Emokpae, confirmed the incident.
