An associate of Mrs Cecilia Ibru, former MD of Oceanic bank, Mr Dele Oye , who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in August 2009 along with another suspect, Nanashetu Bedell, over their alleged involvement in a N200 billion fraud is now in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
Oye, a lawyer who is the Chairman of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry turned himself in on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 after running away from the law for about nine months.
He was declared wanted in the wake of investigations into allegations of sharp practices in the banking sector, a development that led to the sack of six bank CEOs and dissolution of their boards of directors.
Oye and some of his companies were believed to have been used by Ibru to siphon billions of naira from depositors, funds in Oceanic Bank and eventually laundered same.
While Oye is still being detained for interrogation at the EFCC?s headquarters, Abuja, his co-accused, Nanashetu is still on the run.
Like Oye, Ibru had turned herself into EFCC office in Lagos last August after weeks of evading arrest. The former bank CEO is presently facing a 25- count criminal charge before a federal high court in Lagos.
EFCC’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi , confirmed the story yesterday and said Oye would soon be arraigned in court.
