As the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri concludes the last stage of her meetings with top officials of US government on Monday in Washington DC, the visit has continued to attract positive reactions with the latest coming from the governor of the state of Nevada, Jim Gibbons.
Waziri who was in the state of Nevada to present a paper on the invitation of the National Conference of Black Mayors,NCBC at the body’s 35th annual convention also had a meeting with the Republican governor of the state.
Apparently impressed with the EFCC chairman’s commitment to her job after the interaction, the governor expressed support for Waziri’s efforts to fight the menace of corruption in the face of all odds.
As a mark of honour, Governor Gibbons presented Waziri a certificate of recognition personally signed by him.
While acknowledging her determination to foster better relationship with US authorities during the visit inspite of her onerous assignment and tight schedule, Gibbons said “as governor of the state of Nevada, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Silver state. Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to visit with us.”
Apart from meeting state officials and members of the business community in Washington and New York on ways to seek deeper collaboration, Waziri had also seized the opportunity to interact with notable former American Ambassadors to Nigeria including Princeton Lyman, Howard Jetter, Phillip Kaplan and John Campbell all of who presently hold various advisory positions.
