The Nigeria's anti-nacotic watchdog, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), says that it has apprehended a professional tennis player, Mr Dairo Toyin, and a Lagos based business man, Mr. Okoliachu Chukwudi Augustine, over alleged drug dealing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, (MMIA) Lagos.
Mr. Toyin is said to have been apprehended while allegedly attempting to board a British Airways flight to London. His final destination is said to be New York where he usually trains in preparation for a tournament.
The NDLEA says that the other suspect, Mr. Chukwudi was arrested at his house at Festac area of Lagos.
The NDLEA airport commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar adds that while Mr. Toyin hides under the cover of a sports man, Mr. Chukwudi presents himself as an importer of marbles and other building materials.
Toyin who began professional tennis career in 1996 has represented Nigeria in several Davis cup competitions. Notable among his international appearances are Italy in 2002, Senegal in 2004, Germany and Nigeria both in 2006.
The anti-drug agency says that during search of Mr. Chukwudi's residence, 2.3kg of substance that tested positive for cocaine was found inside a bag in one of his bedrooms.
