Default The difference between bribery and gift.

Bribery is prepaid before the beneficiary action is taken by the bribery receiver. It is an inducement and it is given in anticipation of a definite action by the receiver, clearly known by both the giver and the receiver. Sometimes the value of the bribe is specified by the receiver.
A gift on the other hand is post paid, is never asked and never specified, most times it is unexpected by the receiver. In most cases it comes with prayers and gratitude from the giver.

This is nice, So, in an essence let us migrate from pre-paid plans to post paid to move nigeria forward.

A gift given in expectance of something in return is a bribe. A bribe is a bribe.

Some gifts r freely given out of goodwill with motives that r best known to the giver, Bribe is simply givig with the intention of twisting the hand of justice for selfish atrocities. The difference is the motive behind the giving.

Pure Bribe is any inducement given either in appreciation of a past favour or in anticipation of a future one.
Pure Gift is an item given voluntarily to somebody out of love or compassion, without expecting the recipient to be in a position to reciprocate the gesture later or in future.
From the descriptions given above, the motive of the giver and the reciprocating ability of the receiver are the keys to determining a bribe from a gift. For instance, we often mistake the items given by a husband to his wife, or by a father to a son, as gifts. They are bribes going by the pure meaning of the word, since they are given in appreciation or anticipation of something. You love your child for being good, and you want him to continue to be good. Ditto for a wife.
Thus, we only need to make a distinction between a positive bribe and and a negative bribe. Those items of inducement or motivation we give to our loved ones could be regarded as positive bribes. On the contrary, those ones given with the aim of perverting the course of justice and fairplay are negative bribes. So, whether given before or after a favour has been done does not matter. It will still be a negative bribe if its motive is to secure (or reciprocate for) an undeserved favour, or to curry a favour in a foul way.

    Examples of negative bribes:
Anything given out by a contractor or supplier to a public servant is a negative bribe, whether given before or after a contract or supply job has been secured.
Any money given (pre or post) by a litigant to a judge is a negative bribe.
Any item given by a student to a teacher is a negative bribe.

As for pure gifts, their examples comprise mainly of those things given, or donations made, to charity - provided no noise is made about them. Indeed, the giver should not be identified or known before those items could qualify as gifts. Otherwise, a foul motive is involved, and so they become positive or negative bribes, depending on the perversion of the course of justice they potentially connote. Thus, the item given openly by politicians to widows, orphans, schools, communities, etc. are bribes. They are meant to thank the recipients for their past favours or to curry their future votes.

On a joking note, this night looks likely to be cold, so Mr. A plans to buy some nice snacks for his wife on his way home. Positive Bribe!

Corruption is any form of moral perversion; depravity or perversion of integrity, especially in the discharge of one's duties or responsibilities, be it in private or in public affairs.

A bribe is money or any other valuable consideration given or promised with a view to corrupting the behavior of a person, esp. in that person's performance as an athlete, public official, etc. In other words, "gift" given to change or pervert the course of justice is a bribe!
