Getting Started
To subscribe for MobileMoney, you need to check if your SIM card is compatible for the service. To check if your SIM is compatible, go to Main menu->MTN Service-> MobileMoney, to locate the MobileMoney icon.
If your SIM card is not compatible for the service. You may have to buy a new SIM card or request for a SIM Swap from participating agents.
Getting your SIM swapped for MobileMoney
Visit a MobileMoney agent to swap your SIM
The agent will collect and send your SIM details (listed below) to the MobileMoney SIM swap system:
phone number
welcome-back pack SIM serial number
alternative phone number (optional)
The system responds by sending a four-digit token to your phone for confirmation
Upon satisfactory confirmation, the system processes the SIM swap and sends confirmation messages to your phone and the agent’s
Your may then proceed to register for a MobileMoney account
Registering for MobileMoney
There are three account types in MobileMoney. They are:
Unbanked
Semi-Banked
Fully-Banked
To register for the Unbanked account type:
Your agent will request the following information from you:
List Of MTN Mobile Money Agents
Name
Date of birth
Mobile phone number
Address
The agent will send your information above to the MobileMoney system for processing, thereafter you will receive a message from the system advising you on steps to complete the registration.
To register for the Semi-banked account type:
Your agent will request the following information from you:
Name
Date of birth
Verifiable ID
Mobile phone number
Address
Picture of your photo ID and proof of address
The agent will send your information above to the MobileMoney system for processing, thereafter you will receive a message from the system advising you on steps to complete the registration.
To register for the Fully-banked account type:
Your agent will request the following information from you:
List Of MTN Mobile Money Agents
Name
Date of birth
Verifiable ID
Mobile phone number
Address
Proof of address
Credit and reference check from your bank
The agent will send your information above to the MobileMoney system for processing, thereafter you will receive a message from the system advising you on steps to complete the registration
Activating your MobileMoney Account
After you get a message from the system, you will be required to take the following steps to activate your account:
On your phone menu, go to MTN service
Click on MobileMoney->Register->Select Account PIN
Select the ID type you supplied to the agent; remember to select ‘Others’ if you did not supply any ID details
Enter the ID number you supplied to the agent or your phone number if you did not supply any ID
Select a four digit PIN and repeat the PIN
You may proceed to capture your memorable data or do so at a later time
Capturing Your Memorable Data
Your ‘Memorable Data’ is very essential to ensure the security of your MobileMoney account.
On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Memorable Data
Supply answers to the questions
Enter your Account PIN
You will receive a confirmation message
Migrating from one account type to another
You may migrate from one account type to another at any time. To migrate, you need to provide the requirements specific to the account type you want.
To migrate from Unbanked to Semi-Bank
Visit your MobileMoney agent
Your agent will request the following information from you:
a verifiable ID card
your proof of address
Thereafter, call the customer care line on 118 to request for the migration
A customer care personnel will confirm your account information, process the migration and send you a confirmation message afterwards.
To migrate from Unbanked to Fully-Bank
Visit your MobileMoney agent
Your agent will request the following information from you:
a verifiable ID card
your proof of address
credit and reference checks from your bank
Thereafter, call the customer care line on 118 to request for the migration
A customer care personnel will confirm your account information, process the migration and send you a confirmation message afterwards.
To migrate from Semi-Bank to Fully-Bank
Visit your MobileMoney agent

credit check from your bank
reference check from your bank
Thereafter, call the customer care line on 118 to request for the migration
A customer care personnel will confirm your account information, process the migration and send you a confirmation message afterwards.
To migrate from Semi-Bank to Unbanked
You need not visit an agent, just call the customer care line on 118 and request for the migration
A customer care personnel will confirm your account information, process the migration and send you a confirmation message afterwards.
To migrate from Fully-Bank to Semi Banked or Unbanked
You need not visit an agent, just call the customer care line on 118 and request for the migration
A customer care personnel will confirm your account information, process the migration and send you a confirmation message afterwards.
