The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], Professor Attahiru Jega says the voters registration exercise for the 2011 general elections will now commence in January. The electoral boss said this at a training the trainers workshop for staff of the commission in Abuja.
Jega also said the commission had completed arrangements for acquiring the direct data capturing machines needed for the exercise
The training workshop for staff of the electoral commission is in readiness for the voters registration exercise for the 2011 general elections.
While addressing workers, the chairman of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega encouraged workers of the commission to show Nigerians that they can deliver a credible election.
Considering the constitution amendment, the chairman said the commission will announce a new election timetable soon.
Jega told pressmen that the commission will not pre-empt anything, but has made all arrangements to start the election process as soon as all formalities are concluded.
He also explained that the commission is putting in every effort to purchase the direct data capturing machines for the voters registration exercise which is now billed for January 2011.
The shift in date, according the commission, means Nigerians should look forward to a registration exercise they can be proud of.
