Lagos — The on-going voters' registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ran into temporary hitch in Lagos on Friday, when gunmen stormed one of the registration centres and snatched two of the Direct Data Capture Machines (DDC).
A top Police source at Area" C" Police command in Surulere, who pleaded anonymity told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that the gunmen arrived the registration centre at about 10.00am.
It was further gathered that the hoodlums, who wore face-masks shot sporadically into the air to scare away both the registration officials and those on the queue to register before they carted away the machines.
The incident which happened at ward C, Surulere, left the potential voters scampering for safety, while the operation lasted.
The state police spokesperson, Frank Mbah, claimed ignorance of the incident. He told our reporter that he would need time to check out facts with the Area Commander in the zone before speaking on the matter.
But an SSS official in the state confirmed the development and stressed that the gunmen got to the centre in an unmarked Mercedes Benz ML Jeep, blue in colour numbering six.
According to an eye witness, nobody was hurt during the raid.
