Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN),yesterday alerted Lagosians to plans by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig the elections in Lagos. Governor Fashola, who spoke at a political rally of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), told a gathering of over 50, 000 party supporters at the open field of the Centre for Management Development (CMD) in Magodo that the ruling party also intends to foment trouble in the state in order to create opportunity to carry out its plans.
“They plan to destroy my life and your lives. Our problem is the PDP. It is a virus and only our votes can cure it. We must resist any attempts by the party to cause trouble in Lagos. We must resist their attempts to rig elections in Lagos. There is a lot to do and this is the time to issue red card to the PDP. We must move from house to house to tell neighbours to be well-prepared,” Governor Fashola said.
“I have no problem with people in PDP. But I have problem with PDP itself. PDP is an infectious disease. We must avoid and resist it through our vote. I therefore urge you all and the entire people of Lagos State to give red card to the ruling party.
“We are already gathering information about their plan. They are planning to foment trouble in Lagos State. You must be prepared for them. They are planning to rig. So, you must be prepared not only to vote, but to move from house to house, tell every man and woman in your vicinity to resist this evil called the PDP in our lives,” the Governor said.
Recalling some of the infrastructural projects already delivered to the people in Kosofe and other communities by his administration, Governor Fashola declared: “We have delivered the Agiliti Bridge in Kosofe. We embarked on 21 roads, out of which 18 have been completed. We also commenced 13 drainage projects, out of which eight have been completed. We have also delivered two million gallons of water in Magodo and four million gallons in Ibeju Lekki.”
On the engagement of 507 teachers, Governor Fashola explained that those engaged were among about 1,000 teachers screened to assist in giving private tutorials to students in the state who are preparing for the West Africa School Certificate Examinations and Ordinary Level General Certificate of Education.
“They are teachers in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. The tutorials are at no expense to the parents. It is free of charge, but only possible because the parents, guardians and others have paid their taxes”, the Governor said.
He described the ACN as a party that keeps promises.
Governor Fashola declared, “Every promise that we make to you is a promise in honour. When you voted for us in 2007 you remember there was flooding at Gbagada Expressway; is the canal not working well now? We have solved the problem. That is what I promised you in 2007”.
“I promise you again, if you vote for me, if you vote for our candidates for the House of Assembly, Senate and House of Representative, we will work for you in the morning, we will work for you in the afternoon and we would work for you at night, we would work for you in the sun and we would work for you in the rain. PDP promised 10,000 megawatts of electricity. Nothing has been delivered. They now said they made mistakes. The ruling party said they wanted to generate 4,000 megawatts. The Peoples Democratic Party is the enemy of Nigeria”, the Governor said.
Governor Fashola later presented his running mate and Commissioner for Woman Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefilure, saying she championed the state team “to build 17 skill acquisition centres across the state where more than 251,000 persons have been trained in different skills”.
Also present at the rally were the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, First Lady, Mrs. Emmanuella Abimbola, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji and Senator Olorunimbe Mamora as well as the State ACN Chairman, Otunba Henry Oladele who presented the Party flags to Senator Gbenga Ashafa and Hon. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu who are respectively ACN Candidates for the Upper and Lower chambers of the National Assembly.
