The Nigeria Police has announced the restriction of movement of persons from 6:00 p.m. yesterday to 6:00 p.m. today.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olusola Amore, who stated this on Friday, warned that “for the purpose of clarity and compliance, movement is hereby curtailed from 6:00 p.m. of Friday, 1 April 2011 to 6:00 p.m. of Saturday, 2 April, 2011, while there will be restriction of movement of persons around the voting centres from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 2 April, 2011.

He declared that all these measures were being taken towards ensuring violence-free elections.

According to him, the restriction order is to prevent hoodlums and criminal-minded elements, who may want to use the period of election to cause violence.

He said that while the police were determined to ensure a violence-free election, voters are advised to cast their votes and leave the voting area and allow their various party representatives to take care of guarding and watching all votes cast until they are duly counted and recorded by INEC officials.

He warned that the police would not condone any act or conduct that is inimical to the smooth conduct of the election as troublemakers will be arrested and dealt with according to the law.

Meanwhile, the armed forces have commenced the deployment of troops to all entry points of state capitals all over the federation.

Also, the troop, fully kitted, were posted to key and vulnerable points all over the country.
