Final Update : The Incumbent Governor Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared by INEC Nigeria as the winner of Niger state 2011 gubernatorial poll and is here by return elected as the state Chief executive officer for the next 4 years.

A sample of results declared at many polling units in Niger State showed that Governor Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu of PDP was having an early lead over his main opponent, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) candidate Alhaji Bako Shettima.
At Umaru Musa Polling Unit, Aliyu got 539 votes to CPC’s 71 votes. In Hospital Mata, CPC got 88 votes while to PDP’s 215. At the Water Board Top Hill Polling Unit where General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar voted, PDP had 144 to CPC’s 126 votes. At Rashida, New Nigeria Airways polling units, PDP got 409 to CPC’s only 188 votes, while in Jikpan 1 Bosso, PDP got 176 to CPC’s 130 votes. At the Guest House, Tunga polling unit PDP had 259 to CPC’s 122, while in Galadima Polling Unit, Kontagora PDP had 78, CPC 284 and at Galadima B. Kontagora, PDP had 52 to CPC’s 231.
Although PDP was leading overall in Niger State, indications were that it would have a tough time winning in Suleja, Kontagora and Bida. Lapai, Agaie and Minna were however in its firm grip.
