More than two years after completion, touring cinemas and film festivals around the world and winning home-grown and international awards, the hybrid movie, Figurine (Araromire), produced by filmmaker cum actor, Kunle Afolayan, is now out on DVD. “The original DVD is now out and comes with almost four hours of content including the two-hour movie and additional features such as The Making and Deleted Scenes. You can also get it at retail stores all over the country, the Hub Media Store in The Palms and Silverbird Galleria and on the streets,” Afolayan tells E-Punch.
Featuring some of the finest thespians in this side of the divide like Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, Funlola Aofiyebi, Jide Kosoko and Wale Adebayo, The Figurine (Araromire) is a story of two buddies and a girl…all down on their luck who have their lives changed when one of them discovers ‘Araromire’ a mysterious figurine in an abandoned shrine which, according to legend bestows seven years of good luck. But no one told them about the next seven years. Delivered in English and Yoruba, The Figurine is a contemporary feature highlighting the essence and efficacy of tradition, betrayal, trust and friendship.
Rated as one of the best cinematic exports in recent memory, The Figurine (Araromire) won five awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA 2010 including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Lead Role (for Nouah), Best Heart of Africa Film, Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography. It was also screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, New York Africa Film Festival, FESPACO, while it got an honorary mention at the Pan African Film Festival, Los Angeles, USA.
