Among the 30 contestants straining and stretching their vocal chords to almost snapping point, only 10 would make it into the finals proper. And the reality of this has not escaped the Idol wannabes who are digging into the depth of their creativity to impress the judges comprising American singer-choreographer, Jeffrey Daniel; songstress, Yinka Davies and enigmatic showbiz impresario, Charly Boy. Kennis Music contemporary gospel act, Kenny Saint Brown was a guest judge as the first 10 contestants from the 30 finalists performed different genres of choice music before a live studio audience on New Year’s Day.
Some were commended while some were told to improve on their act or lose out on the mouth-watering prizes awaiting the eventual winner that would be announced April 1st. Voice Coach, Kehinde Da Costa, says, “All top 30 contestants are amazingly gifted musicians.
The quality of music and the professional performance they bring to the table is quite remarkable. The audience will have a hard time selecting their top 10 from these talents.”
With the end of the first set of performances, the voting lines have been thrown open and the audience can have a chance to vote their favourites into the top 10. The Idol franchise is the world’s biggest and most popular platform responsible for the discovery of popular stars like Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Adam Lambert, Timi Dakolo and Nigeria’s own Yeka Onka.
