Mainstream vs online journalism

Online journalism is being seen as a threat to the mainstream media because of its spate and speed of development in the country. online journalism is simply a new style of writing/news gathering/dissemination and feedback(interractivity) now information can be said to be in the hands of the journalist and not the government, unlike the mainstream media where censorship and control allows the government to have power over the media agencies. In a recent review of the effects of online journalism on the mainstream media in the U.S, it was discovered that the mature population still prefer the mainstream media and the youths though they have access to new medias do not use it for NEWS. Hence it is obvious that though the online journalism seems to have taken over a larger percentage of the news media the mainstream media can still survive and better survive if they imbibe some aspects of the new media(online journalism) and try to merge it effectively with the traditional method without losing the qualities that appeal to their audience the most.

with the rate at which youths are bcoming more interested in entertainment than information and educative news, online journalism may not achieve its main purpose which is the timely dissemination and receipt of news. the youths nowadays prefer to access the new media which online journalism is an aspect just to escape boredom and while away their tym and not to get informed about happenings around them.
