Traditional journalism may lose its resources to .online journalism by: Othello tody - u07mm2036

  1. OTHELLO TODY
Traditional journalism have made a tremendous impact in every sphere of life, such as economy, social, security, entertainment, education, information and politics. since its establishment in 1440, by Gutenberg, when he made a turning point in history. traditional journalism was primarily established to disseminate information and to escalate the level of literacy among the people. since the invention of internet in 1960s, and its technological advancement in recent years, which many researchers see it as a threat to the future of traditional journalism.
Recent statistics have proven that people are turning to online journalism due to its convergence in nature which left the advertisers with no option but to invest their resources in online journalism.
According to Soola (2005) Information is an extremely valuable resource, it is power and individuals who has current and useful information has power.
Due to its (new media) immediacy in information, people turn to online journalism because they ,want to be abreast about what is happening around the globe in every minute.
More over, "seeing is believing", most people prefer watching than reading, which has made Nigerians lazy.
in this light, for traditional journalism to retain its audiences and survive, it need to adopt some aspects of the new media to its profession by having their website address and updating it with current information and giving the audience the opportunity to post their comments on issues that are affecting the lives of the people. like the october1st,2010(independence day) bomb blast in Abuja. traditional journalism should try to make its possible to show some live events on their website, since the audience prefer watching than reading.
Finally, traditional journalism should improve its production by using more graphic arts to make the newspaper more beautiful to attract audiences and advertisers.

We have dwell so much on mainstream journalism as if it is the only thing to talk about in journalism. there must be a point of departure from the old to the new, we must learn to accept the reality that technology is advancing beyound measures.in some countries today they have grown past the level we are, we must embrase change and move ahead.
