The Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in india on Friday awarded three-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,500 each to two Nigerian nationals for entering the country with fake travel documents.
Silver John Edire alias Daniel Williams and Disi Goodluck alias Desmand William of Delta State in Nigeria checked into Hotel Leela Residency in Governorpet on August 24, 2009.
As per the regular practice, the hotel management informed the same to the Police Commissioner’s office.
Though all foreign nationals are bound by law to inform the local police about their tour schedule, the duo did not follow the practice.
The police questioned them and crosschecked their travel documents with the High Commission concerned.
As it was established that the documents were fake, a case was registered in Governorpet police station the next day under Sections 14, 14A, 14b of the Foreigners Act, ,1946, and Amendment Act 16/2004 (staying in India without valid passport and visa).
After prosecuting five persons, Magistrate M.V. Ramesh delivered the verdict.
