A spokesperson for Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Federal Government has approved $1million for the assistance of flood victims in Pakistan. The statement said the decision is in response to an appeal, by the United Nation Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the government of Pakistan, for relief materials.

The statement added that, "President Jonathan has approved the donation to assist the country towards economic recovery efforts and rehabilitation of over 2.5 million people displaced by raging floods,"

President Jonathan is also reported to have sent a condolence message to the government of Pakistan. The floods in Pakistan are considered to be the worst in the last eight years and have killed over 1,500 people.
