    Default The copy cat syndrome.

The so much taunted successes of the west and scientific break- throughs were attained at a cost. It is true of Asia,Russia and Australia. North America, being an amalgam of the world, remains in a class of its own. Before the amalgamation of Nigeria to what it is today, famous and prosperous nations existed. We have paid our dues in civil war, unrests, slavery etc, but still remain in tatters. Our brilliant sons are making other nations prosperous. Yet we remain happy to ape the way of others forgetting our own proud and prosperous past. Germany was decimated, but it is the strongest economy in its sub-region. Japan was the only nation that was atom-bombed twice. but look at it today. We talk of Oduduwa when we want to go political. We talk of benin when we visit a museum, or when we speak about the Aninis. We talk of Kano or Zazzau when we want to condemn the north. We talk about Enugu or Calabar when we talk about coal or the damsels. We are happy to copy traits alien to us from Adam and indeed even try to exceed or outdo the real owners. The most prosperous and glamorous shop in any of our cities is the one featuring goods made in England, Japan or America. Our God given blessings are not appreciated. Who do we turn to in our dire moments? The funny thing is that we are only good with the dead. We bring our dead home. no matter from how far and at what cost, to give it our own home grown funeral. Any wonder why we go to Churches and Mosques, or even pray at home and we still remain copy cats?
