President Goodluck Jonathan says he will transform Nigeria into a nation everyone will be proud of where there will be unity and sound economy.
The president was speaking at the 16th Nigerian economic summit with the theme Nigeria at 50, the challenge of visionary leadership and good governance.
President Jonathan decried the lack of proper planning by successive administrations since independence and condemned what he called ethnic nationalism that has been prevalent in the country.
On education, the president says Nigerians falling standards is beyond infrastructure decay. He condemned the government takeover of schools from missionaries and called on parents and Nigerian teachers to take the basic education at the primary level serious.
On corruption, Dr. Jonathan says his administration will continue to strengthen the law enforcement agents and that in the next few years corruption will fade away.
The president says the reforms in the Nigeria police are designed to meet with the challenges in crime situations in the country and that the next twelve months will signal the end of crimes in the country.
Other participants in the debate were the minister of national planning Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, the minister of finance Olusegun Aganga, a former chief justice of the federation Alfa Belgore, the chairman of the Nigerian economic summit group Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, and the managing director of the legacy pensions Mr. Bello Maccido.
The national economic summit is set out to determine and advise on policies that will best promote national unity and integration and sustain the Nigerian nation.
