Nigeria received its first Olympic medal at the 2016 Rio games in a 3-2 win against Honduras in the men’s football event on Saturday. The victory awarded Nigeria a bronze medal following a lackluster showing against Germany earlier this week. The bronze medal winning match saw Aminu Umar scoring in the 34th and 49th minutes of the game. In the 56th minute, Sadiq Umar scored a goal making giving Nigeria a decisive lead of 3-0 against Honduras.

Honduras began climbing back with Anthony Lozano scoring a goal in the 71st minute and Marcelo Periera scoring in the 86th minute making the score 3-2.

The bonze medal is being coined by some as the “Golden Bronze” referring to the fact that it is the only medal won by Team Nigeria so far at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
