Akwa United players have received the houses they were promised by the Akwa Ibom State Government, for winning the 2015 Federation Cup.
Each member of the squad was given a three-bedroom bungalow over the weekend.
The houses are located at Ikot Ekpene, a border town between Akwa Ibom and Aba in Abia State. All documents relating to ownership of the houses have also been given to the players.
“We have received the houses promised us by the (Akwa Ibom) state government for winning the Federation Cup last year,” one of the players, Johnson Olewezi, said on Sunday morning.
“That was on Friday and I’m personally happy about it and grateful to the governor,” Olewezi, a former (now defunct) Dolphins of Port Harcourt midfielder said.
Spokesman of the Promise Keepers, Uwem Ekoh, also confirmed the development.
“The houses as promised by the governor to the players for winning last year’s Federation Cup have been given out to the beneficiaries,” he said.
“That was on Friday. All the papers relating to ownership, I mean allocation paper and Certificate of Occupancy have also been issued to the players.”
He also disclosed that what remains now, is the money the governor promised the players.
“As I speak to you now, what remains is the cash, N2m each, promised the players and that will be paid soonest,” Ekoh added.
Akwa United beat Lobi Stars 2-1 at Teslim Balogun Stadium to win last year’s Federation Cup. It was the first time a club from the state has won it in 62 years.
