The Promise Keepers will play a friendly tie in Uyo on Thursday with a view to re-assess their readiness for the NPFL season.

Akwa United will Spartans of Lagos in a friendly match aimed at bringing his players who just returned from the yuletide break back to shape ahead on Thursday.

Abdu Maikaba hinted that he opted for a lower league side because his players just came in from the Christmas and New Year break and that it would be difficult for them to remain at the same level they were before leaving to reunite with their families.

He said they are working round the clock to secure other friendly matches against NPFL sides before the commencement of the league season where they have a road trip with ABS in Ilorin.

“We are playing against Spartans of Lagos on Thursday and we are using it to re-assess our players who have been on break,”

“We do not want to face a topflight side for now because we are just returning from a break. We will face other teams in friendly matches before the start of the season.”
