The Pride of Port Harcourt star is confident the club will make a statement in all three competitions this season

Bolaji Sakin has voiced out his satisfaction with Rivers United's preparations for the 2017 campaign, and is confident that the club can improve compared to their form in the previous season.

The Pride of Rivers placed second at the end of the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, and Sakin feels the club has already proven that it has what it takes to go far this term.

"We're a side that still needs to improve, but we've shown we can get big results, that's why we're Rivers United," Sakin told Goal.

"We've made progress and will continue to do so. Now we'll keep working.

"The team will be competing in the Caf Champions League, Nigeria Professional Football League and the Federation Cup. All we want is to make bold statements in the three competitions.

"Everyone certainly have the chance to win the gong because the league here in Nigeria is very tough. We have respect for the other teams and don't single out any opponent," he added.

"But I had like to talk about Rivers United. We have the capacity and machinery to be history makers.

"My confidence is hinged on the calibre of players we have and the quality in the team."
