John Owoeri may again not debut for Sunshine in the CAF Champions League clash against Aso Chlef of Algeria this weekend in Ijebu Ode, as his transfer papers are yet to come through. The former Enyimba and Heartland winger has already featured for Sunshine in the Nigeria Premier League, but the late addition to the team’s Champions League campaign is yet to feature for the Nigerian club in the continental competition.
The experienced Owoeri missed the crucial Group A clash at Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia two weeks ago as a result of paper delay. Top Sunshine Stars official Mike Idoko admitted Owoeri remains a big doubt for Sunday’s crunch clash against visiting Aso Chlef of Algeria in Ijebu-Ode.
“Owoeri is in camp training ahead of the game, but I can’t say whether he will play or not on Sunday because we are still waiting for his transfer papers,” Idoko said. Cameroonian defender Isaac Hele also missed the trip to Etoile because his work permit has expired.
Idoko though is bullish of his team’s chances against the Algerians, who are bottom of Group A as they have lost their two group games thus far. “This game is very important to us and everybody here is aware of that. We will put in everything within our capacity to see that we win the game,” he declared.
“It is a must-win game for us because victory over Aso Chlef could well determine our fate in this competition.
“Our draw with Etoile in Sousse and the victory over Warri Wolves in Warri in the NPL, are tonic for the team to do well against the Algerian team, who are no pushovers as their position on the table does not reflect their potentials. “I watched them against Esperance and they played a fantastic match only to lose 3-2.”
