The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) elections were finally conducted yesterday in Abuja yesterday, with Davidson Owumi emerging as the new Chairman of the Board of the NPL.

The elections which were held at the Lamonde Hotel, Garki in Abuja, Owumi beat Baribote Victor Rumson by 13 votes to 4 to emerge victorious.
Owumi now replaces the former Chairman, Chief Oyuiki Obaseki and will now head the Board of the NPL.

The Chairman of Election Committee, Tony Rafua declared Owumi winner after the election proceedings.
However, three representatives out of the expected 20 did not vote. They were representatives of Dolphins, Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys who declined casting their votes in the chairmanship election as they felt short-changed after they were denied an opportunity to make an observation during the election proceedings.
Also, five representatives were returned unopposed from their zones in the run-in to the chairmanship.

They are Shehu Gusau from South/West, Joe Amene from South/East, Abdulrazak Owolabi from North Central, Akin Bobola Elvis from South/West and Danbaba Abdullahi from North/East.

Before the final elections, two elections had initially been; held for the Chairman of Chairmen’s category where Davidson Owumi had beaten Abdullaliz Mohammed by 12 votes to 8, to emerge for the final election while Danbaba Abdullahi also defeated Farouk Adamu by 12 votes to 8 to emerge for the North/East slot.
The elected board members were sworn-in by a judge immediately after the elections while the new board will be inaugurated on Monday.
