Former Nigeria international Adokiye Amiesimaka says he is not interested in serving in the board of the Nigerian Football Federation because it is too politicised not development oriented.
Amiesimaka, a former Green Eagles winger who helped Nigeria to African Nations Cup triumph in 1980, has been one of the most outspoken critics of the NFF, and there have been calls for him to run for elections along with Oscar Igbokwe, owner and chairman of Bussdor FC.
But the lawyer told the News Agency of Nigeria that he would not be running, as the NFF was still essentially tied to the apron-strings of the sports ministry
“The sports minister has statutory powers under Section 19 of the NFF Act to control the board of the NFF.
“What that means is that our football administration is seriously politicised. There is too much politicisation of football than professionalization.
“We need an NFF that is structured to be development-oriented and to be accountable. These two things are missing. The NFF now is not accountable,’’ Amiesimaka, a lawyer, said.
The 1980 African Nations Cup winner said the country‘s football was still competition-based and that the NFF needed structural adjustment and not change of persons.
