Struggling Nigeria Premier League side Ocean Boys are to sack 16 players in a massive clear-out following what officials described as "blatant indiscipline" by the players.
Among the players to be axed are Super Eagles invitee Ayo Saka, Ndubuisi Nkoro, Uba Chimiezie, John Mercy and Ekene Ezenwa.
Officials disclosed that highly-rated midfielder Saka is one of the three players yet to rejoin the club since the Christmas holidays.
Ocean Boys registered 35 players for the new season, but club spokesman Eddy Ohis said they are now forced to do away with almost half of this squad.
"These players have not shown good example as most of them displayed blatant indiscipline by staying away from the team," said Ohis.
"We will make public the names of the affected players in the next 48 hours."
The players have complained about poor working conditions at the 2006 league champions.
They are owed signing-on fees for the past two seasons.
The Nigerian Premier League transfer window opened on Wednesday and will close next week Wednesday.
According to acting executive secretary, Tunji Babalola, clubs should use this opportunity to register as well as release players who cannot meet up their club(s) performance.
Ocean Boys are second from bottom of the NPL table with eight points from nine matches.
