One of Nigeria’s representatives in this year’s CAF Champions League, Kano Pillars, were yesterday sent out of the tourney after failing to muster the result needed to move on in the tournament.

Kano Pillars were trailing their opponents, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, by 2-0 from the first leg and needed at least three unreplied goals to move on. However, the Ladan Bosso led team failed to seize the moment as the game finished in a disappointing 0-0 draw and thus meant an early exit for the team that went as far as the semi finals in the 2009 tournament.

However in Aba, it was a different story as Enyimba, who had a slim advantage from the first leg after getting 0-0 draw in Gabon, managed to secure a 2-1 victory against their opponent, Union Sportive. The Peoples’ Elephant thus progress on a 2-1 aggregate.

There was also cheering news for the country, as the two teams taking part in the 2011 Orange CAF Confederation Cup, Kaduna United and Sunshine Stars, qualified for the third round of the competition. Kaduna United lost 1-0 to Foullah Edifice of Chad on Saturday in N’jdamena but advanced on a 2-1 aggregate score. The club, coached by Belgian Maurice Cooreman, had won the first leg 2-0 a fortnight ago, courtesy of strikes from Ali Adamu and Linus Adams.

Kaduna United will now meet the winners of the tie between Etiole du Sahel (Tunisia) and Ashanti Gold (Ghana).

Sunshine Stars on Sunday also booked a ticket to the next round after defeating their opponents, Tiko United, 1-0 in Yaounde to advance on a 3-0 aggregate.
