Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has urged Nigerians to strive to sustain the indivisibility of the nation.
The governor stated this in Benin City yesterday at the launch of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration of the emblem appeal fund.
The governor explained that the source of strength of Nigeria in the comity of nation is traced to her diversity which should not be threatened under any guise.
Governor Oshiomhole pointed out that around the world, countries are facing different challenges, noting that what is most important is for the leaders to fashion out ways to address them.
Comrade Oshiomhole who appreciated the armed forces for its continued role towards sustained peace and unity in the country said beyond rhetorics, we should acknowledge the sacrifice made by the ex-service men which will in turn be a motivating factor for those still in service.
The governor re-affirmed his resolve to continue to assist the Nigeria legion through employment opportunity amongst others.
State Commissioner for youths and sport, Hon. Anita Evbuomwan in an address of welcome said the annual Armed forces remembrance day celebration provides the unique platform for corporate bodies and individual to reflect on the plight of the ex-servicemen who fought gallantly in the world wars, the Nigeria civil war and various peacekeeping operations.
Chairman, Oredo Local Government Area, Prince Ekpen Erediauwa is of the view that the potent way to remember the fallen heroes is to support the activities of the ex-servicesmen.
State Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Colonel Osawaru Awanbor retired, appreciated Edo State Government for its assistance for the legion particularly the regular one hundred thousand naira monthly subvention.
He appealed to the governor to consider the employment of more of the ex-servicemen and assist in the procurement of artificial limbs for some of their members.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole was later decorated with the armed forces emblem.
The grand finale of the 2012 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration will take place on the 15th of this month with the laying of wreath at the cenotaph.
