Abuja — Action Congress (AC) has advised President Goodluck Jonathan to shun the use of state resources and machinery if and when he decides to run for the presidency in the 2011 general elections.
The party also charged Jonathan to set up an independent campaign organisation if he intends to contest the 2011 presidential election.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ahaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the advice has become necessary following some recent developments in connection with the Goodluck Support Group.
AC said the decision to use the office of the Political Adviser to the President, Alhaji Indabawa, as the coordinator of the activities of the group is not tidy enough.
"The communication from Ahmed Ali Gulak, the Legal Adviser to Alhaji Indabawa, to all states asking each state coordinator (of the group) to establish local government area offices is an indication that the group may be using state resources for the activities of the Goodluck Support Group, and by extension the President's impending campaign.
"We have no stand on whether or not President Jonathan should run for office. That is his prerogative and that of his party. But we believe it is improper for public office holders to be sending out letters, presumably using public funds, on behalf of a putative candidate.
"What this means is that there is a 'war chest' which may be from the national coffers," AC said.
