Kano State Governor in the botched third republic and the current deputy Minority Whip in the Senate, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya has formally declared his intention to contest the Governorship election in Kano State, come 2011.

Addressing a mammoth crowd in the ancient commercial city of Kano, Senator Gaya says his decision to join the gubernatorial race in Kano State was informed by his desire to foster rapid socio-economic development in Kano State.

Senator Gaya who represents Kano South Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly says if elected as Governor of Kano State, his policy thrust is to revive the agricultural sector, create jobs and improve the living standard of the people of the state.

The Governorship aspirant debunked speculations bordering on his alleged personal animosity between him and the incumbent governor Ibrahim Shekarau. He promised to build on the successes recorded by the governor, whom he noted had laid the foundation for states sustainable development.

He pleaded with the people of Kano State to give him maximum support to enable him clinch the party's ticket and eventually realizes his ambition as governor of the State in 2011.
