A faction of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) has rejected the purported suspension of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and Malam Salihu Lukman from the group.
The trios suspension was announced last week at a media briefing led by coordinator of Lawyers of Conscience, Benedict Ezeagu, in company of the Secretary General of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Willy Ezugwu on behalf of some other aggrieved members, after a special enlarged general meeting of the group.
However, the National Secretary of National Conscience Party (NCP), Malam Yunusa Tanko and Comrade Aliyu Abdulhakeem, chairman Trade Union Congress (TUC) FCT chapter, dismissed the suspension in a jointly-signed statement.
Our attention has been draw to reports that an aggrieved faction of the SNG, while briefing newsmen in Abuja said Pastor Bakare, Salisu Lukman and Yinka Odumakin were suspended for allegedly engaging in activities inimical to the objectives of SNG despite several warnings. Specifically, the faction accused the suspended persons of using the SNG to pursue personal political agenda by holding nocturnal meetings with some politicians and presidential aspirants.
We wish to state categorically that the said statement was not what was agreed at the meeting. At the meeting we agreed that: Our key leaders Femi Falana, Tunde Bakare and others should meet and call for a general assembly for the Group to correct the mistakes of the past; that no decision would be taken until after the general assembly meeting, it said.
Tanko said that he and some other members did not attend the press conference or append their signatures to the communiqu suspending Bakare and others, as it runs contrary to the agreement reached at the meeting.
