Abia state Governor, Chief Theodore Orji has formally rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) barely two months he defected to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) under the platform he became the state governor.

The governor rejoined the ruling party at an elaborate ceremony in Umuahia, the state capital which was attended by the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President, Namadi Sambo, some state governors and senior officials of the PDP.

Governor Orji said he decided to return to the party he left about four years ago after consultation with his people and that the state can no longer afford to stay out of the party at the centre.

Governor Orji left the PPA about two months ago following a disagreement with his political godfather, the former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orj Kalu.

He had in June, joined the APGA but left the party few weeks after for the PDP.

Barely few hours before the reception by the PDP, he had written the APGA intimating it of his planned defection to his new party. His letter of resignation, dated Aug. 10, was sent to the chairman of the party in the ward and copied to its National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, the state chairman, Mr. Morgan Anyalechi, and the chairman of the party in the Umuahia North council.

A copy of the letter reads: "I write to inform you, other officers and members of APGA of the resignation of my membership of the party.

"I appreciate the solidarity and warmness with which I was received into APGA and say that I am leaving the party due to the greater yearnings of Abians.

"We shall ever, always find a common ground to work together in our future political endeavor. Please accept the assurances of my warmest regards."
