Abuja — Four presidential aspirants from the geo-political North have agreed to present a common candidate for the PDP presidential primaries.

They are former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, former national security adviser, Gen. Aliyu Gusau and Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki.

The statement issued by the group were signed by Chief Raymond Dokpesi for the IBB Campaign Organisation, Mr. Chris Mammah for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Senator Ben Obi for General Aliyu Gusau and Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame for the Governor Bukola Saraki Campaign Organization.

Similarly , the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and members of the National Working Committee of the party have been urged to reserve the party's presidential nomination for northern aspirants.

The party was also urged to restrain President Jonathan from participating in the 2010 presidential primary as an aspirant.

A letter dated September 17, 2010 and signed for and on behalf of concerned members by Adamu Fika, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, Bello Kirfi, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande and Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim said that despite the death of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, the North still reserved the right to produce the presidential candidate for the 2011 presidential election.

Explaining that it is in tandem with the provision of Article 7, Section 7.2 of the party's constitution, the letter said; "if we follow our party's practice and constitution, which we must, the party must nominate a Northerner as our presidential candidate and a southerner as our Vice-Presidential candidate because the existing Yar'Adua/Goodluck ticket was zoned to the North, not the South.
