The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of Nigerias Governors Forum [NGF], replacing the outgoing chairman of the forum, the governor of Kwara State Dr. Bukola Saraki who is pursuing his political career as a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

According to a source, Gbenga Daniel's election took place during a meeting of the governors at the Ogun State governor's lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, the nation's capital.

The governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswan who spoke on behalf of the forum after the meeting said that the governor was chosen due to his exemplary leadership quality and track record as a second term governor.

I will do all in my power to ensure that the forum continues to work for the Nigerian people and in the interest of our nation. It is a call to service and by the grace of God I will not disappoint my colleagues and the people of Nigeria,Governor Daniel stated.

Meanwhile, the Edo State governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has dissociated himself from the recent endorsement of the Ogun state Governor Gbenga Daniel as the new Chairman of Governor's forum.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole while briefing newsmen at the Government House in Benin City on Sunday afternoon said the announcement by the Benue state Gabriel Suswam was embarrassing.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole said that sixteen governors cannot effectively represent the interest of a forum of thirty six governors, maintaining that leaders should commit themselves to democratic principles.

Oshiomhole also said that while he bears no grudge against Governor Gbenga Daniel, it is necessary that everything is done according to the law.

He asked Governor Daniel to state his interest in the seat properly by informing the thirty six governors and canvassing for their votes.
