The Governor of Niger State, Dr Muazu Aliyu has given indications that a new chairman of the Nigeria Governor Forum [NGF] is expected to emerge on Wednesday at an emergency meeting of the forum in Abuja.
Dr Aliyu revealed this during an interactive session organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] in Minna.
Dr Aliyu who is also the chairman of the Northern Governor's Forum the purported election of Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State as the new chairman of forum is not accepted and will be resisted.
The present chairman of the governor's forum is an aspirant for the office of the president under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].
Gov Aliyu also speaking over the weekend on the issue of a northern consensus candidate which is expected to be announced soon by the Mallam Adamu Ciroma committee says the inability of the candidates to reach a consensus is embarrassing, stressing that the development is an indication that the once valued unity of the north has fizzled out.
He said, That it has become very difficult for us to produce a consensus candidate is an issue of great concern.
Zoning or no zoning, we (north) should be able to collectively give the direction of political leadership of this country.
Hence it is an embarrassment to the legacies left by our founding fathers, who, inspite of political differences, would not compromise the unity of the north, for selfish gains. Aliyu said.
