Truth is bitter.

TWO sitting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Assembly members, Senators Ikechukwu Obiora and C. I. D. Maduabum, who defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) last week in search for a political platform to actualise their bid to return to the National Assembly have been advised to accept the result of the National Assembly primaries conducted last week in Anambra State and stop sponsoring false publications in the media.

Obiora contested for the ticket of the Anambra South Senatorial Zone and Maduabum contested for the ticket of the Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat. They both lost in last week’s senatorial primaries.

Speaking to the Nigerian Compass in a telephone interview, the state Chairman of the party, Chief Obidike Enyiaguleri, commended the party in the state for a peaceful primaries. He, however, advised those who lost in the primaries, especially Obiora and Maduabum, to accept the result and stop sponsoring false publications in the media about the party.

In a related development, two separate election monitoring groups, Ferd Doz Foundation and Nigeria Free Election Watch, which monitored the primaries in the state, have commended the party for the transparent and peaceful conduct of the primaries.

In a release jointly signed by Boniface Okoye Esq. Coordinator, Ferd Doz Foundation, and Chief Chidubem Nwankwo, Executive Secretary of Nigeria Free Election Watch, the groups condemned the actions of Obiora and Maduabum, who after failing in their bid to win the primaries, instead of congratulating the winners, resorted to publishing “illicit results” on their letter heads and circulating same among the media, security personnel who were not part of the primaries and the general public in a bid to cause confusion, in the typical ‘do or die’ attitude of PDP politicians.

The groups advised both senators to join hands with the winners in their respective constituencies “in the disciplined spirit of ACN.”

The groups also wondered how legislators who joined the party only about one week to the primaries could have expected to perform miracles in a direct election involving all members.
