Mohammed Sani Abacha, the son of the late General Sani Abacha, has asked a federal high court in Abuja to declare him winner of the Congress for Progressive Change [CPC] governorship primary election conducted in Kano state.
In an originating summons filed by his lawyer, Mr. Abdullahi Haruna, Mr. Abacha is asking the court to prevail on the independent national electoral commission not to recognize any other candidate in that election, other than himself.
Citing his grounds for the relief, Mohammed Abacha said he scored the highest vote of 144,066 in the party's governorship primaries above four other contestants.
He therefore prayed for an order of injunction restraining INEC, its officers, agents, and staff from recognizing, Retired Brigadier-General Lawal Ja'afar Isah as the flag-bearer of the CPC in the April 2011 elections.
Mohammed Sanni Abacha also asked the court to declare that failure of the CPC to submit his name to INEC as the duly elected candidate of the party for the April polls was a clear breach of the party's constitution.
