The battle of supremacy between the embattled governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo reached a climax yesterday as the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) accepted all the candidates that emerged through the Obasanjo-led faction's primaries in Ogun State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for the April poll.
Reacting to the list, Governor Daniel promised to fight the exclusion and rejection of his candidates to a logical conclusion. Daniel who spoke while addressing party supporters promised to take the fight to the highest level.
According to the list released in Abeokuta by INEC, Chief Adetunji Idowu Olurin was picked as the PDP governorship candidate while Gboyega Isiaka from Daniel's camp lost out entirely.
Also, the Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, lost his bid to return to the lower chamber as he was replaced with Olusegun Alawode. The failure of Bankole to make the INEC list was due to his last minute romance with Daniel's faction
The Senatorial list submitted also favours Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Bello to the detriment of the eldest daughter of the late business mogul, Chief M.K.O Abiola, Hon Lola Abiola-Edewor.
The list, as released by INEC, showed that the Action Congress of Nigeria's (ACN) governorship candidate is Senator Ibikunle Amosun while a former commissioner under Olusegun Osoba, Prince Segun Adesegun, is the running mate.
The candidates for PDP as released by INEC are Adetunji Idowu Olurin for Governorship, while the former Chairman of Ijebu East local government Tunde Oladunjoye is the running mate.
