The contention over who be-comes the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Enugu State may be over as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) moves to comply with an order of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which restrained it from accepting any list of candidates other than the one which had Anayo Onwuegbu as the party’s governorship candidate for the state in the April general elections.
The court had also ordered the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) not to submit the names of Governor Sullivan Chime as the governorship candidate of the party in the state but the PDP NWC allegedly disregarded the court order bu submitting the names of the incumbent governor as the candidate for the governorship election in the state.
A source close to the commission told the Nigerian Compass that officials of the commission from Abuja visited the state at the weekend and INEC may announce the names of the party’s governorship candidate today (Monday).
Just as the state chapter of the party had, in a letter made available to the Nigerian Compass yesterday, dated February 8, 2011 and signed by Chief Okey Ogbonna, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the crisis.
