The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC has rejected opposition calls to alter the date for presidential elections because the timetable favors the ruling party, saying time is too short for any such change.

Opposition parties had gone to court requesting the presidential poll be held last, saying any other order puts pressure on voters to support the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

However,INEC said today that there would be no change in the timetable and it is confident the constitution would support its decision.

INEC spokesman,Mr Kayode Idowu says that the order of elections remains as announced, adding that the time is too short to alter the sequence of elections.

Nigeria is due to hold parliamentary elections on the 2nd of April , followed by the presidential vote on the 9th of April , with voters electing governors in 36 states to round off the process on the 16th of April.
