The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it is ready for the conduct of the April 2011 general elections.

Prof Attahiru Jega stated this on Monday in Abuja at the Nigerian Bar Association [NBA] President's Consultative Dialogue on the state of preparedness for the polls.

The INEC chairman however says all key partners must join hands with the commission for it to deliver the best elections that Nigerians yearn for.

The NBA president, Joseph Daudu while agreeing with this request is of the opinion that electoral vices can only be curbed by a strict adherence to the Rule of Law.

Also present at the forum were, former head of state, General Abdusalam Abubakar, INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Current, past presidents & members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Retired judicial officers, security officers and key INEC officials.

The NBA president, Joseph Daudu (SAN) at whose instance the dialogue was held wondered whether the Nigerian populace are indeed victims of rigged elections especially as it is from amongst them that thugs, praise singers, party leaders, religious & professional associations and many others emerge, persons who constantly come up with any and every form of conceivable financial assistance from politicians.

He is however of the opinion that the ruler and the ruled must subject themselves to the rule of law

The INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega urged the NBA to get to the root of the challenges of conflicting exparte orders emanating from the courts even as he expresses the belief that the commission is set for the polls.
