There has been reported fresh violence in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital between supporters of ACN governorship candidate, Senator John Akpan Udoedehe and that of PDP Candidate, Governor Godswill Akpabio.
Channels Television gathered that the conflict broke out in the early hours of yesterday at the ACN campaign rally held at Ikot-Ekpene when suspected member of PDP attacked supporters of ACN in a bid to scuttle the rally.
A reprisal attack which was launched by ACN attackers is believed to have left 4 people dead.
Our correspondent reports that the Peoples Democratic Party state headquarters was completely razed down while about 200 newly acquired taxis awaiting allocation to beneficiaries of the state transport scheme and about 100 tricycles popular known as Keke Napep were all burnt in the violence.
The state practically came to a standstill as commercial transporters fled the road while commercial activities were completely paralysed as business owners locked up their shops.
The Director, Media and Strategy of Senator John Udoedehe Campaign Group, Honourable Thomas O. Akpabio, confirmed the attack on his campaign train, saying many of the ACN supporters were wounded and vehicles burnt.
The chairman, media and publicity sub-committee of the ACN, who spoke to newsmen, said we went to campaign in Ikot Ekpene and some people stopped us on the way from Ikot Obong Edong, near the road leading to Ikono Local Government."
He said further that "they started throwing stones at us, shooting at us and in the process damaged our cars. We had to return to Uyo because we were empty handed. As Im talking to you now, we dont know the whereabouts of our governorship candidate."
