Lagos Central Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) senatorial candidate, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged-off her campaigns, urging Lagosians to vote for “the party of ideas”.

He promised effective representation to the cosmopolitan district from where she bagged the Yeye Asiwaju of Lagos title along with her husband and former governor of the state, Senator Bola Tinubu, who was installed the Asiwaju.

For two weeks, Mrs Tinubu, President of New Era Foundation, has been selling her manifesto to the leaders and people who gave her assurance of support. She has also visited prominent monarchs in the district for royal blessings.

The former First Lady was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the state governor on Central Business District, Hon. Oyinlomo Danmole, who stepped down for her during the senatorial primaries.

At the palace of Ojora of Lagos, Oba Fatai Aromire, Tinubu recalled that all the traditional rulers in the state supported her husband’s administration, urging them to support her bid for the Senate.

Danmole explained to the royal father that the senatorial candidate came to pay homage to him before forging ahead with her aspiration. He said she could only proceed, following the approval of the elders and community leaders.

Oba Aromire welcomed Yeye Asiwaju to her palace as a daughter of the soil, recalling that her mother-in-law hailed from his domain.

The monarch also said that the refurbishment of the new palace was done by Senator Tinubu when he was governor.

Oba Aromire described her as a good wife who supported her husband to succeed while in office, praying for her success at the poll.

At the Rockview Hotel, Parklane, Apapa, Mrs Tinubu was welcomed by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun . he praised her contributions to the state in the areas of education and youth development. Balogun assured her of bloc votes from Apapa, which he said, is inhabited by Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

“This district is about to be represented by a woman of substance, with rare beauty and brain, who indeed has what it takes to represent our people in the senate”, he added, stressing that no fewer than 160,000 registered voters would vote for her in April.

Like Aromire, Balogun described Mrs Tinubu as a pillar of support for Asiwaju Tinubu in the time of harmony, storm and stress.

“It is right to put the right person in the right place. Already, Mrs Tinubu is showing the promise of a senator. He has a senatorial office which people can visit to make their feelings known. Mrs Tinubu is not a liability. She is a trained educator ... He also described her as a trained educator. She is the choice of our party for the senate and the party is supreme”, he added, enjoining AC N members to remain loyal to the party.

Thanking the people for the warm reception, Danmole called for unity, patience and love among party members; stressing that, though there may be upsetting situations, they should not lose focus.

He encouraged party leaders to persuade aggrieved members to reiterate their dedication and commitment to the success of the party during the forth-coming elections.

Mrs Tinubu thanked the party leaders and appealed to members to remain united. She promised never to let the party down, if elected as senator.

The former First Lady said she is qualified for the legislative work, referring to her political experience as wife of a top activist who was a senator, one of the heros of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), governor and pro-democracy arrowhead in the country.

Many of her constituents fired probing questions to her campaign organisations. Some people wanted her to expand the scope of her philanthropic activities. Youths demanded for bursaries and scholarships. Widows and women sought for a new lease of life.

Mrs Tinubu said she would not disappoint them. She asked them to enlist inher campaigns. To the women she said: “Gird up your loins because the state belongs to you. If we start now, the party can have the first female governor in Lagos by 2015”
